Radio host Chrissie Swan sold her South Yarra home for close to $5.5 million at an auction on Wednesday night.

According to industry insiders, the five-bedroom home, which had an indicative selling price of $4.5 million to $4.95 million, was hotly contested at the auction. Four bidders pushed the price up past the $5 million mark.

The Nova 100 breakfast co-host bought the 854-square metre property in 2013 for $2.8 million, according to Domain Group data.

Swan was unavailable for an interview. Listing agent Oliver Booth from RT Edgar Toorak declined to comment on any aspect of the sale.

Earlier this year Swan told Home Beautiful magazine about her extensive kitchen renovation, which included a new stone bench tops, ample storage and Bosch appliances.

She is best known as a radio personality and former host of Channel Ten’s morning talk show The Circle. Prior to working in the media, she was a contestant on the 2003 season of Big Brother. Swan has three young children with partner Chris Saville, and has written columns on life and parenting for Sunday Life magazine.

The double-fronted Victorian home is in a sought-after location walking distance from Chapel Street and Hawksburn Village.

The front of the house includes four generous bedrooms, the master with a walk-in wardrobe and en suite. Down a step there is a modern extension with a second bathroom, separate family room and huge, light-filled kitchen and living area.

High ceilings, baltic pine floorboards and ornate fire places are a nod to the history of the home.

Through the expansive sliding doors is a large paved entertaining area leading to the landscaped lawn area and heated pool. A one-bedroom pool house is the perfect studio-space or guest accommodation.

The property also includes refrigerated air conditioning, hydronic heating and a double remote garage.
